When being assessed for the Yellow Belt at the Howick & St Heliers Judo Club the following criteria will need to be demonstrated.

General Requirements

  • Regular practice and attendance (minimum 40 weeks)

Judo Knowledge

  • Basic Judo etiquette
  • Basic Judo hygiene
  • Purpose of breakfalls (Ukemi)
  • Correct forms of sitting, standing and kneeling
  • Basic fundamentals of grip positions, breaking balance, and throwing
  • Counting:

  1 - Ichi
  2 - Ni
  3 - San
  4 - Shi
  5 - Go
  6 - Roku
  7 - Shichi
  8 - Hachi
  9 - Ku
  10 - Ju


Ukemi

Falling Techniques

1 Yoko Ukemi (Migi/Hidari)

Side Breakfall (Right/Left)

2 Koho Ukemi

Backward Breakfall

3 Zenpo Ukemi   

Forward Breakfall into Lying Position
